Hoping to break the Arab monopoly on coffee, the Dutch, in the late 1600's, introduced coffee to Indonesia. It was planted on the island of Sulawesi (formerly known as Celebes) in 1750. Sulawesi is one the larger Indonesian islands in the Malay archipelago. Coffees are grown in the central highlands in the mountainous area of Tana Toraja, and collected in and distributed from the town of Kalossi.
Celebes coffee is still grown predominantly by small family owned plantations (at elevations of 4500 feet above sea level) and is still hand-picked and processed by traditional methods. These beans are most distinctive and highly sought after. The large bean has a relatively low acidity, is full bodied, and strong, with a vibrant flavor and aromatic spiciness.
Our coffees are available either ground or whole bean. We can grind coffees from Perc (coarse) to Turkish (extra-fine). Please specify when you order if you would like Bean, Perc, French Press, Drip, Melitta, Espresso or Turkish grind.
