Detailed Description
Walt Whitman was born May 31, 1819 to a housebuilder (and farmer) and his wife in West Hills, Town of Huntington, on Long Island, New York. He was introduced to the written word at the age of 12 when he began working as a printer’s apprentice. There, he taught himself to read and devoured the classics. When the printing house burned down, Walt taught for five years until he decided to pursue journalism. The first edition of Leaves of Grass, a rough self-published volume of only twelve poems, was printed in 1855. Whitman would continue to revise and reprint Leaves of Grass until he died. Though his contributions to poetry are considered some of the most important in American history, Whitman did not enjoy success in his lifetime. He spent much of his life struggling to get by with only a meager clerk’s wage to support himself as well as his mother and invalid brother. An 1882 edition of Leaves of Grass finally afforded him enough wealth to buy a house in Camden, New Jersey where he would work on Good-Bye, My Fancy until his death in 1892.

Our Walt Whitman tea blend is inspired by his beautiful nature imagery in Leaves of Grass, especially the poems he wrote about roots and herbs. In one of his memoirs, Whitman describes a man who “express'd a great desire for good, strong green tea.” This blend is an earthier and more mature variation on Simpson & Vail’s Lemon Ginger Green Tea. It combines an unobtrusive green tea base with the earthiness of ginger and eleuthero roots and the sweetness and acid bite of lemon (with lemongrass, lemon peel, and lemon flavoring).

Ingredients: Organic Green Tea, organic ginger root, organic lemon peel, organic eleuthero root, organic lemongrass and natural lemon flavor.

Certified Kosher

I don't like green tea but... 12/4/2019
I don't like green tea, plain and simple. But this blend has turned me. This is the only green tea that can stand. And not only can I bear it, I love it. Every one of the literary blends is awesome in it's own way but this one is truly top notch.

Light and citrusy 6/13/2019
I usually opt for black teas, but I wanted to try something different. I liked this blend pretty well. The slight citrus and ginseng flavors balanced out the green tea bitterness that I usually dislike.

Beautiful! 9/14/2018
I actually don’t love Walt Whitman, but I love this tea!! The other flavors in this tea make it so much more than just a plain green tea. It has a beautiful flavor that I wouldn’t add a thing to. I’m very impressed.

Walt Would Be Proud 7/13/2018
This tea was purchased at an adorable book store in the state capital and it was absolutely incredible. I am not usually a big fan of green teas (they have to be really great for me to enjoy them), but this tea was unbelievable one! It has a smooth, bright flavor, with the "happiness-boost" of lemon! I am in love, very pleased!

The perfect winter blues tea.... or the perfect any time blend! 3/11/2018
SPRING where are you? One of these NY winters will be the death of me. sigh. This is the perfect tea to have for those end of winter blues. It's so lemon, fresh and bright! Super lemon with multiple lemon ingredients: organic lemon peel, organic lemongrass and natural lemon flavor. I'm not sure what eleuthero root is, but it's in there too. The green tea is lovely with the lemon. And the ginger doesn't really make an appearance which is fine with me, I don't love ginger. Overall, a very tasty, refreshing and fruity blend. Lemon lovers, give this one a try! Steep #1 // 1 teaspoon for a full mug// 30 minutes after boiling // 3 minute steep Steep #2 // 25 minutes after boiling // 3 minute steep

Relaxing and Refreshing 3/31/2017
A perfect way to end your day, refreshing and relaxing, the ginger is not overpowering, nice green tea with an added spice of ginger.

Not what I expected from a green 12/3/2016
Has not been popular with friends. I enjoy some of its subtle notes and the lemongrass, but the combination reminds me unpleasantly of hemp. Definitely good if your looking for a lemon green though. Was surprisingly delicious when mixed with Lewis Carrolls black blend, though I wouldnt recommend getting the latter just to mix them.
