My new monkey |
3/15/2022 |
I fell in love with the Gold Monkey tea which has since disappeared. I ordered this on a whim and I do think I'm in love. It has the rich maltiness that I prefer and it's not even an Assam - rare for me...LOL But neither was my beloved monkey. Far be it from me to tell one how to prepare their tea, but I steep between 3 - 5mins and for this used a bit more leaves that usual. I did an immediate compare cup with the Tippy Yunnan, just to see if I could get the same taste in a cheaper tea, as I'm one of those awful people who use both stevia and a splash of heavy cream. The Tippy was close... -ish. Just a bit weak and lacking to me. |

Delightful. Different. Enjoyed It. |

Delightful. Different. Thoroughly enjoy it. Great for a change of pace and taste. Really got the maltiness and Chardonnay when I had a cup today. And I only get organic tea now since seeing a photo of a worker on a tea plantation spraying plants with insecticide. Is that what I am drinking? In any event - this is tea for a change of pace. |

Malty |
7/4/2020 |
This smells so rich and chocolatey. The flavor is so malty and thick. I’m really enjoying it. This is my kind of black tea. I added some milk, but it’s also good without. It’s like dessert in a cup. |

This is a really lovely tea. Medium body, with a wonderful velvety texture. Flavor is sweet, with notes of warm spice. |

It's tough for be to describe the subtlety here. |

I couldn't resist trying this. I'm trying to find a familiar flavor profile and the "silk" in the name sold it for me. This turns out not to be like what I was imagining, but it's tasty anyway. I wanted a very deep chocolate brew, but this one is lighter -- the color of the brew looks like the inside of butternut squash. The flavor of the large, long, hints of gold leaves is slightly smoky. It's tough to describe this. The profile of a lighter Chinese tea with hints of smoke. I actually used bottled water in my tea kettle, so this was the best the flavor was going to get. No chlorine tap water here. So maybe this is just one of those teas I'm not tasting the subtlety of. I'm sure that happens with tastebuds. Or this is better when it isn't steeped Western. I like this, but I just wished for something deeper, darker. I wish I could describe it better!
Steep #1 // 1 1/2 teaspoons for a full mug // 16 minutes after boiling // 3 minute steep
Steep #2 // just boiled // 3 minute steep |

I love this tea. It has the most delicious, taste - smooth and subtle- but I don't exactly know how to describe it. I drink it with some milk and honey, and am in heaven. This is my new favorite black tea from S & V. |
