Detailed Description
Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon, has been providing excellent teas since the mid 1800's and is currently one of the largest tea producing countries in the world. Prior to the introduction of tea plants to Sri Lanka, this country was primarily known for its crops of cinnamon and coffee. Due to economic changes, which affected the cinnamon crop, and a fungal disease, which devastated the coffee plants, Ceylon began experimenting with tea plants in 1839. It wasn't until 1867, when James Taylor, a British planter, began a tea plantation in Kandy, that tea was established as a viable industry. His venture was soon followed by other tea gardens in and around the area.

Sri Lanka has 6 growing regions: Kandy, Uda Pussellawa, Uva, Ruhuna, Dimbula and Nuwara Eliya. The central highlands of Sri Lanka offer humidity, cooler temperatures and consistent rainfall, all of which provide a favorable environment for high quality teas.

Ceylon teas are best paired with foods such as breakfast meals (breads, eggs, smoked fish, bacon, etc.), light savory foods, meats, eggs, cream cheese, pastries and fruit, to name a few.

This well-known estate sits in the foothills of Sri Lanka's western slopes, among lush green highlands and majestic waterfalls. Located in the town of Ginigathena, in the Nuwara Eliya region, at elevations of 1900-2100 feet above sea level, the Kenilworth estate has gained worldwide fame for producing high quality teas.

The long, wiry, black leaves of this Ceylon Kenilworth Estate tea produce a deep amber cup with an excellent body and a slightly sweet taste.

Brew tea at 212º - steep for 3 minutes

Sweet! 4/28/2020
I don't often post reviews but I am really enjoying this one. It has such a great natural sweetness and is sturdy enough for two brews (not necessarily a thing people do with black teas? But I am trying to cut down on caffeine). I do one for three minutes and then a second time for 4:30...and the 2nd is actually sweeter but not astringent.

Ceylon Kennelworth Estate Black 2/17/2020
This is fine tea, one of my favorite S&V’s. It has a deep, complex flavor. But I’m careful not to steep it too long. Slightly less than three minutes, or else I find it becomes too astringent. For that reason I’d rate it 4.5, if I could. That said, I’ll gladly give it five stars

Fine everyday tea 9/1/2018
This is a nice everyday tea that brews to a mild cup. I found that most of its qualities are fairly middle of the road. It turns out neither too strong nor too weak and doesn't have any strong taste notes. Enjoyable, but a little too middle of the road for my taste.

Ceylon Kenilworth Tea 8/9/2016
Ceylon Kenilworth is my favorite black tea of all time, hot or cold. If youre looking for a tea that doesnt need any added sugar etc, it is great. If I want a more southern sweet tea, I add 1/4 more tea to steep and add sugar but I find it is a very refreshing tea to drink without anything added either hot or cold.

Easy Going Nature 2/27/2014
Had purchased a sample of Kenilworth from another vendor awhile ago, but was not impressed. Thought Id give this one a try; after all, this tea is suppose to be famous...I probably just had an unfortunate batch. I really like this one from S&V. It has an uncomplicated easy going nature, with nice body and honey like finish. Does not even need any milk or sweetener. Great as an afternoon tea with some Scottish shortbread. Im kind of new to the world of fine teas, but I find that the 5 samples of teas Ive purchased from S&V do not need any added milk or sweetener...they just taste great all alone!

Superb! 12/11/2012
I have been purchasing Ceylon Kennilworth tea from you for many years. It is absolutely superb: fabulously flavorful and very smooth. There is no more wonderful tea, morning, afternoon or at bedtime.

A Classic ! 7/19/2012
This tea is an old favorite of mine. Never bitter or astringent, it has a wonderfully smooth almost honey-like taste. I like to add a splash of soy milk, for which I will brew slightly longer 4-5 minutes. Kenilworth produces a very consistent quality tea, year after year. Great for breakfast, or any time of day.
