Detailed Description
A step back into the past! Set against a white background this century old cobalt-blue pattern of two lovers is beautifully replicated on both sides of the porcelain 10 oz teapot and cup. The saucer has an enlarged blue willow pattern and is highlighted by a small triangular design that surrounds its rim and is also featured on the teapots spout and lid.
This time-honored, blue and white pattern originated in the eighteenth century and tells the love story of Koong-tse, a rich man's daughter, and Chang, a clerk. Koong-tse's father forbids their marriage and betroths her to a rich mandarin. The lovers flee to an island, where they live happily. When Chang becomes a published writer, the mandarin finds the couple and Chang is killed. In despair, Koong-tse commits suicide. The souls of the lovers are depicted as two immortal doves.
Microwave safe.
