|(Urtica dioica) A perennial found worldwide, nettle (or stinging nettle as it is also known) is recommended by herbalists of many different cultures for a wide variety of medicinal purposes. It is high in B vitamins and Vitamin C, and rich in iron, calcium, potassium, silicon, magnesium, manganese, and zinc. |
Its diuretic properties make it a useful herb, although people already taking diuretics for blood pressure issues should consult a physician prior to use.
Externally, nettles are a useful herb for scalp problems - dandruff, cradle cap, eczema - and for helping to promote new hair growth, when used as a rinse.
Brew 2 Tbsp. in 1 cup of water at 212º - steep for 10-15 minutes.
