(Sambucus nigra) Elderflowers grow on a perennial shrub, or small tree, that was originally native to Europe. An infusion of dried elderberry flowers is an old fashioned European remedy for colds.
Brew tea at 212º - steep for 5 minutes.
Elder Flower Toner
Recipe from The Herbal Body Book by Stephanie Tourles
1 Tbsp. elderflowers
1 cup distilled water
1 Tbsp glycerin
5 drops essential oil of sandalwood or lavender (optional)
Yield: 50 treatments
Bring water to a boil and remove from heat. Add elderflowers and steep for 45 minutes in a covered pot. Strain. Slowly add glycerin and essential oil, stirring constantly. Store in a glass jar or bottle. Use 1 tsp. per application. Shake vigorously before each use. Good for normal and dry skin.
