(Prunus serotina) Also known as black cherry or rum cherry, this cherry tree is native to North America. American Indian tribes used it for a variety of reasons: to treat upper respiratory problems, diarrhea and digestive problems, to ease pain during labor, to lower blood pressure and blood sugar, and to relax muscles. It was once a main ingredient in cough and cold medicines. Today it is mostly used in herbal formulas to help relax the muscles in the chest to ease coughs and bronchial problems.
Brew 1-2 tsp in 1 cup of water at 212º - steep for 10-15 minutes.
