Nettle Leaf, c/s, organic |
(Urtica dioica) A perennial found worldwide, nettle (or stinging nettle as it is also known) is recommended by herbalists of many different cultures for a wide variety of medicinal purposes. It is high in B vitamins and Vitamin C, and rich in iron, calcium, potassium, silicon, magnesium, manganese, and zinc. Nettle is recommended in herbal blends for anemia (due to its high iron) and in high calcium blends (mixed with horsetail and oats).
A superior tonic for men, women and children of all ages, nettles strengthen and tone the systems of the body - for the urinary system, the liver, the reproductive systems (both male and female), and the respiratory system (for problems with allergies and hay fever). Nettles are also being found useful in arthritis treatments. Its diuretic properties make it a useful herb, although people already taking diuretics for blood pressure issues should consult a physician prior to use.
Externally, nettles are a useful herb for scalp problems - dandruff, cradle cap, eczema - and for helping to promote new hair growth, when used as a rinse.
Brew 2 Tbsp. in 1 cup of water at 212º - steep for 10-15 minutes.
