Lycii Berries (Goji Berries) whole, dried, commercial |
(Lycium chinese) Also known as goji berry or wolfberry, Lycii berries are the fruit from a perennial plant that is native to southeastern Europe and Asia. Used by the Chinese for over 2,000 years, the lycii berry is still used as a strong tonic to aid the kidneys and the liver. It has been suggested that these berries not be used when one is suffering from a cold or flu as they may make the illnesses a little more severe. They are reputed to have high levels of antioxidants, although studies are still ongoing. Caution: Lycii berries are not recommended for women who are pregnant or nursing.
The berries can be eaten raw or boiled in water for 10 minutes and sipped as a tea.
