(Zingiber officinale) Ginger, a perennial, originated in tropical Asia, and is now cultivated in many areas around the globe. Medical research has shown that Ginger is an effective remedy for nausea, upset stomach, indigestion and cramps. Traditionally Ginger has been said to have blood thinning and cholesterol lowering properties, although studies are still continuing. As a stimulant it aids poor circulation. Try it alone or with a combination of other herbs to help ease the effects at the onset of a cold.
For tea: Put 1 tsp. of the root in 1 cup of water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 5-10 minutes.
