Fenugreek Seed, whole, commercial |
(Trigonella foenum graecum) Fenugreek is an annual plant native to the Mediterranean that is now cultivated around the globe. It has a wide variety of uses medicinally and in cooking, cosmetics and beverages. It is mainly used medicinally as a digestive aid since it soothes sore throats and digestive tracts. A poultice made from the crushed seeds has been used to treat cuts, wounds and skin irritations.
For tea: Put 2 tsp. of fenugreek in 1 cup of water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. The taste is a little bitter, so you may want to add some more flavorful herb such as anise or fennel seeds.
