Fennel Seed, whole, commercial |
(Foeniculum vulgare) Fennel is a biennial or perennial plant that is cultivated in the US, Europe and Asia. It is essential in meat recipes (sausages and curing) and sauces (especially tomato sauce) as well as breads. Medicinally, fennel seed has been used in preparations to relieve colic, abdominal cramps and flatulence as well as to expel mucus accumulations. It is extremely beneficial for nursing mothers (to help increase the flow of milk) and children (for colic and digestive problems and for helping the taste of other medicinal teas).
Brew 1 tbsp of fresh crushed seeds in 1 cup of water at 212º - steep for 5 minutes.
