(Ceratonia siliqua) Carob bean pods come from an evergreen tree that originated in the Mediterranean and is now cultivated in warm climates. Ground into powder, the carob is used as an alternative to chocolate. Carob has been traditionally used for its demulcent properties, to soothe the digestive tract and help with throat ailments.
To brew as a tea: Pour boiling water over 1 tsp. of carob pods and steep for 5 minutes.
