(Pimpinella anisum) Anise is an annual plant that was native to Asia, North Africa and the Mediterranean, but is now widely cultivated. Anise seeds have many varied uses from culinary to medicinal. In the culinary sphere it is used in cakes, cookies, biscotti, breads, pickling, and more.
Medicinally it has been used to promote lactation in nursing mothers, as an aid in digestion and as a breath sweetener.
Brewing tea: Crush 1 tsp. of seeds to release volatile oil. Pour 1 cup of boiling water over the crushed seeds and let it steep, covered, for 5-10 minutes.
